What a way to start the day

The sunrise from our backyard

By 9:30 this morning, I knew I wanted to crawl back into bed. You know. From the frustration of it all.

Ever have a day that begins with problem after problem hitting you in the face? Ever have a half dozen of them fly at you within an hour or so? None of them of your own creation?

This was me this morning: Deep breath. Resist the urge to run away screaming. Resist the urge to chain smoke. Resist the urge to close your door and lie down on the floor and/or do yoga. Actually, scratch that. Close the door, lay down on the floor, and do yoga. Don’t be a martyr.

I truly enjoy my job and my kids and my husband, but everything in life has aspects we do not enjoy. Sooner or later you have to deal with those items and then you get back to the good stuff. Couple this with the fact that I am a workaholic in academia at the end of a busy year, and well…

I need a vacation. What the hell would I do on a vacation?

I contemplated this over coffee and sunshine and the sweet smell of blooming magnolias this morning. I can’t tell you the last time we saw the sun around here. I thought I would share it with you. Since, you know, my computer does not have scratch and sniff capabilities to share the scent of magnolias.
