My work was 15 miles away from our house, one way, and rush hour highway at that. Then there was the year or so where I had to deal with the MAJOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION. The MAJOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION made my commute go from 35 minutes each way to 55 minutes each way.
Now, I like driving, but 8 lane highways make me nervous, and rush hour on 8 lane highways makes me really nervous, and construction on 8 lane highways with pissed off fellow travelers during rush hour scares the crap out of me. I grew up on a two lane highway, people! Needless to say, the enjoyment of driving was nonexistent.
Today, it takes me 8 minutes to get from my house to my work. It’s only 3 miles or so. I really should bike it, but J is afraid I’ll get squished at the intersection of business 70.
He has no faith in me sometimes, I swear!
It’s hard to love an eight minute drive. It’s only 2 and ½ songs on the radio. I need some excitement. You know, to keep it fresh. There are only so many punch buggies a girl can take.
I’ve decided that other people should do interesting things while driving to amuse me for those 16 minutes each day. Some of those ideas I have posted on my Facebook status. The jazz hands idea went over well.
- Cyclists should use jazz hands when signaling.
- People should post status updates on their back windshields.
- Spontaneous car dancing should be permitted. So should dance-offs, but only at intersections.
- I know it is really, REALLY dangerous, but I think it would be fun to squid ink someone, just like on Super Mario Kart.
- I also really wish I could play my “World’s Greatest Pandora Station According to Sarah” in the car. Can you play Pandora in the car? Has anyone figured out how? Without forking over fistfuls of cash to Steve Jobs or AT&T?
P.S. If you comment me your email address, I will share my awesome Pandora station. Just 'cause I'm nice like that.
