Respite

Awake.
It’s the interlude between night and day-
Predawn.
And I tell myself to go back to sleep
But no.
Just because I can, I won’t
Rising.
From underneath my eggplant coverlet and into
Lavender light.
The purplish circles beneath my eyes have been
Erased.
It’s not been exciting or exotic or
Vacation.
It has been exactly what I needed-
Respite.

This post was written to the prompt: Write a poem that incorporates the color purple, from Mama Kat's Pretty Much World Famous Writer's Workshop.
