Now that I’ve written what seems like a whole series of serious posts (what a drag!) I think it’s time to focus on the weekend!
What makes the perfect weekend for you?
I have to admit it, some of the most perfect weekends for me happen in the spring and the fall. I love a house that is relatively picked up (clean is pushing it around here, kids) and windows that are open with a fresh breeze. So, perhaps, weather does have quite a bit to do with it, although being rained in or snowed in does really have its benefits.
Now I am craving a hot chocolate with marshmallows and a good book. Hmmm…
Speaking of food and diversions, I love an excellent dinner or two and maybe a dessert. Doing something special for the kids and the hubby are always nice. It makes you feel good, and you get to eat it too!
Even if it is just a small portion, because I’ll be damned if I lose any progress on my creation of healthier habits.
Speaking of healthy habits, right now I love to exercise when I get up in the morning. I know, I know, blah, blah blah. There are several of you tuning me out right now, and I feel you—I used to do it too. But I’ve noticed, for me, that if I exercise in the mornings, I don’t need a nap in the afternoons. This means more weekend. And more time to do something silly, like watch House reruns or play Mario Kart with the kiddos.
Fantastic weekend activities.
Another fantastic weekend activity: dates with your spouse. These are really underrated. Thinking up fun dates (whether they are at home, or out and about) for you and your spouse is a lot of fun. I noticed that I get the butterflies in my stomach again. I hadn’t even realized that they were gone until they come back. I am so glad they are here, and I plan on having them here to stay!
Finally, though, the weekend draws to an end. You can feel it coming. It can be sad. To avert the sadness, I plan for the coming week. I do things to prepare for the coming week. I go to the store. I do laundry. I help with homework.
I used to think it was pure procrastination, but I think I’ve realized that it is better to view it as much fun as possible, and then clearing off as much of my plate for the week ahead as possible. That seems to work better, even if it is just me kidding myself.
What makes your perfect weekend?
